Tattoo Pictures & Tattoo Designs for YOU!

Writen by Declan O Reilly

Anyone who is seriously into tattoos will tell you how long it takes to choose the right one. After all they should last a lifetime so are not something to be rushed. It can take up to 20-30 hours to find the right tattoo design. But that is only the first step.

If you are serious you will want to have something that is unique and not taken from a book or or copied from a picture in a tattoo gallery. A tattoo should speak about who you are and not be ripped off someone else. Not only that but a lot of artists will refuse to copy another artists work. And quite rightly. While you can be done for copyright infringement for copying another person’s work in other mediums the same rules don’t seem to apply to tattoo art.

It is still a form of plagiarism to take another persons artwork and reproduce it as your own. In any other form this would result in legal action. So just because there is no precendent set for copyright infringement does not mean its is cool to claim another tattooists work.

So how do you come up with original tattoo designs?

If you are like me you have looked at literally thousands of tattoo pictures and tattoo designs from a variety of different tattooists from around the world. Or maybe you keep visiting your local tattoo studio and have started getting dirty looks from the tattoo artist who thinks you are stalking him because you go there every weekend and still haven’t chosen a tattoo!

There are so many different styles of so you need to be really clear about what you want before you get inked. It is a good idea ot visualize the type of tattoo you want before you even get it. You need to be able to see yourself with a particular tattoo before you get it. If is a tribal tattoo on your arm imagine yourself walking down the street with the tattoo for all the world to see.

Next view some examples of different styles that you like. So if it is tribal tattoos source pictures of that particular tattoo style. If it is work from another artist do not take it to your nearest tattoo studio and ask for it to be copied onto you. Tell the tattoo artist that you like that particular style and would like a tattoo designed for YOU. This is where the visualisation exercise comes into play. Tattoo artists are very visual people and are highly talented at rendering an nebulous idea into a full on customized tattoo.

Think of the bigger picture. Don’t be tempted to choose some generic tattoo flash off the wall because you can’t make up your mind. Don’t settle for something less if you cannot afford the tattoo you really want. Tattoos are organic and are constantly changing and growing with you. Avoid painful mistakes!

Used Body Kits

Writen by Marcus Peterson

Think twice before buying a used body kit. Keep in mind that often, kits have to be remolded to fit custom work. It has to be cut or molded to fit your car’s dimensions. You have to be very lucky for a used body kit to fit on your car. Used body kits are usually for used cars, because you wouldn’t want to risk putting used parts on a brand new car.

However, there are several decent second-hand body kits available on the market. The best place to start searching is at your local body shop, or goes online and search for “used body kits.” Chat rooms that discuss custom automobiles are also a good place to inquire. Make sure when you buy used body kits, that the parts have no damages that are usually hidden by paint. You can do an inspection of the kits by actually feeling them and knocking lightly on them with your knuckles to see how the metal sounds. An expert should be able to detect this, but you can also ask the person from whom you are buying the used body kit. Look the person in the eye when you ask.

One good thing about used body kits is they are cheaper. However, if you have to replace a part, they may no longer be available. Still, the quality of a used body kit will remain the same for years when taken proper care of. If you are lucky enough to find a kit that fits your car, you will benefit.

Tattoo Design And How To Choose The Right One For You

Writen by Richard Davies

Making the big decision to go ahead and get a new tattoo requires a considerable quantity of due thought. The main consideration is the kind of tattoo design that you would like and the second consideration is where on your body you are going to have it done.

A tattoo can be an indicator of the kind of person you are in terms of what style you like and can even give others clues about your personality so it pays to take your time and plan out the tattoo you want. Check out different tattoo artists and parlours before making your decision. Also try and choose one based on a recommendation from somebody you know that has had a tattoo done that you admire. Whatever you do, don’t check in at the first tattoo parlor you see and get a tattoo done.

Only the other day, one of my friends had a tattoo done rather hastily and I could tell he wasn’t overly enamoured with the overall result. Too late now though, he’s got to live with it unless he wants to go through expensive procedures to get it removed.

When you find the tattoo artist that you want to do your tattoo, have a meeting with them first to talk about the tattoo designs that are available, along with how much each tattoo is going to cost. Also view the artists designs and work whilst you are there.

Be sure to also choose a tattoo parlor that is licensed, as your health is a primary concern, along with hygienic conditions. It is also of value to consider if there are any implications on your life that this new tattoo will have. For instance, a tattoo on your forearm is probably not going to go down too well in a job that involves working with the public when you want to wear a short sleeved shirt in the summer. You get the idea.

Also think about whether you really want to live with this tattoo design for the rest of your mortal days. Sure, you make think it’s the best thing since sliced bread when you initially look at the design, but are you going to feel that way in 5 years from now when you wake up to look in the mirror at it each morning.

You may also want to take along some pictures of tattoo designs that interest you to the tattoo artist so that they have a good idea of the kind of tattoo you would like. Small tattoos are simple enough to do, but large tattoos require more thought, time and consideration.

The internet is full of great tattoo designs, so it’s also well worth checking in at cyberspace for a while and do some surfing to find the best tattoo design possible for you.

Tattoo Safety

Writen by David Z

Tattooing process involves needles that penetrate the outermost layers of skin, safety and common sense are the most important consideration.

A legitimate, well-trained tattooist follows strict health guidelines and is willing to answer any of your questions about tattooing procedures and concerns.

The primary fear most people express about getting tattooed is that they may contract the HIV virus, which can cause AIDS. In fact, HIV is only one of many viruses that can be transmitted. Syphilis, tuberculosis, strep, staph, and hepatitis are just a few of the other diseases to take into consideration. YES, you could get these diseases from a tattoo needle.

Like many activity, tattooing is potentially dangerous, but minimizing or eliminating the potential danger is not unreasonably difficult. In fact, the strict code of practices takes every safety measure so the risk of transmitting HIV or other diseases is virtually nonexistent.

A qualified tattooist will have and use a real steam pressure autoclave - an autoclave is the only reliable means of sterilization recognized by the Center for Disease Control. Alcohol, bleach, and ultrasonic cleaning do not sterilize instruments, they only clean them before autoclaving.

Your tattooist should wear disposable rubber gloves during tattooing procedure. All items such as ointment spreaders and wiping rags should be disposable as well. The tattoo studio and tattooist’s equipment and working area should be absolutely clean and sanitary.

Also make sure each customer get a fresh set of needles, and the tattooist dips the needle into a small cap filled with pigment from a large squeeze bottle. If the needle is dipped into a large jar or bottle of pigment, you are sharing body fluids with other people who have been tattooed with that batch of pigment.

When it comes to tattoo safety, use your common sense as well:

Is the tattoo studio clean?

Are tattoo supplies kept in a sterile receptacles with lids?

Does the tattooist wash hands a lot?

Does the tattooist use latex gloves when working on other clients? and do tattooist change gloves when they touch something else during the procedure?

Take responsibility for your own health and welfare!

Tattoos Of Movies A Good Idea? Things Like Star Wars Or Lord Of The Rings Tattoos?

Writen by Chris Ryerson

I have noticed recently that there are a few jobs being posted on the web for custom tattoo designs involving movies. In fact I saw one on my site a day or so ago for a custom star wars tattoo design. This was something that the person wanted to get done that would span across their calves. It was honestly a pretty cool plan for a design and might come out very artistically.

Then a few weeks back I was on about.com’s tattoo and body modification website and found they had awarded a tattoo of the week to someone who had gotten a Lord of the Rings Tattoo done on their back. Again the piece is beautiful and very well done.

However with all of these movie tattoos things like star wars tattoos and Lord of the Rings tattoos I have to wonder if it is a good idea. There is a lot of debate in the world of tattooing as to what is a good design to get a tattoo done of. However almost everyone agrees that the most important factor bar none is your own desires and like or dislikes. For example if you went out and got a shooting star tattoo or Celtic cross tattoo just because you heard they were popular right now and you didn’t really like it for any other reason then eventually you would grow to hate the tattoo. Sure at first it might be fun to show it off to friends and look cool and popular. But in another 20 years or so you won’t probably want to show it off. That is when a tattoo becomes something much more personal. So most designers, tattoo artists, and tattoo customers universally agree if you are going to get a tattoo go right ahead. They are really cool and very addictive. However get one because it is something you like and something you will always like.

So should you get star wars or Lord of the Rings tattoo done? Well, of curse they are super popular items right now with the success of their respective movies. However that is not a very good reason to get one done. On the other hand if you have always been a fan of the series and it is something that speaks to you in a personal way then go for it. The sets in both movies and the complex story plots lend themselves to some very beautiful designs. Just make sure you are not getting it because the movie was just released and it is what is “in style” right now. For me personally you might ask? I would probably have to go with a Lord of the Rings tattoo. I have always loved the series and had read the books a billion times. Sure the trilogy coming out rekindled some of my love of the series but I have always loved the themes, allegory and symbolism portrayed in the movie. There is something powerful for me about the struggle between good and bad forces and the archetypal role of the wizard that Gandalf plays. I absolutely love the series and the books and could see myself getting a tattoo of Gandalf. On the other hand even though I like Star Wars and it is a lot of fun and I am excited about the popularity and success of the series it just does not speak to me in the same way. So it would not be a very good candidate for a Star Wars tattoo.

The bottom line is you should always make sure that before you get a tattoo that it is something that speaks to a little piece of you that is inside and not just the outside that wants to be fashionable and cool.

Think Before You Ink? You Won’t Regret It! How To Get A Great Tattoo You Won’t Regret!

Writen by Chris Ryerson

This article is really a result of a growing trend that I have witnessed for cover up tattoos. It seems like ever day I see someone looking for a new custom tattoo design to cover up some old in k they had done. Getting rid of an old tattoo that you no longer like is not so easy. Your only two options are painful and expensive laser removal or a cover up design. Unfortunately most people can not afford the laser removal and honestly most cover up tattoos are big, black, and can even draw more attention to itself.

So honestly the best option is to think before you ink. This is going to become our new motto. Unfortunately there are tons of people out there that do not think before getting a tattoo and later end up regretting them.

Top 5 reasons people state for wanting to get rid of a tattoo:

1. Got the tattoo while out with friends drunk.
2. I was young when I got it.
3. It really was not the design I wanted.
4. It is too common and doesn’t speak to me anymore.
5. The symbol is wrong or I did not know what it stood for.

These are so common that we have come across people that are getting cover up tattoos for all of the above reasons. Recently with the growing trend of Japanese Kanji tattoos many people are paying good money for these only to find later they don’t mean what they were originally told. Also they often don’t translate well. For example getting something like “Bling” or “Pimp” translated to Japanese just does not work. There is no kanji for these words.

It is vitally important that you spend some time coming up with an original tattoo idea. Do some research on the symbolism behind the tattoo design and think about what you want it to say. Then have a professional tattoo artist do the design for you. Take the time to look at the design maybe mull over it for a few days. You can even have a tattoo artists do the work with a sharpie first and spend some time thinking about it.

Tattoos are expensive and custom tattoo can cost even more. However the artwork will be original and unique and it will speak to you more then some flash design off the wall in your local tattoo shop. Actually if you think of it custom tattoos can be a big savings. It is more expensive to get a cover up done or go through laser removal. So spend some time thinking about your tattoo and do some research on the design. It is way better then regretting the design for the rest of your life.

All About Tribal Tattoos

Writen by Becky McClure

In recent years, Tribal Tattoos have enjoyed a revival. The originals go beyond the intertwined stripes of black shapes that are common today. Many of the ancient tattoo patterns have given away to swirls, spikes, knots, and totems that come from the imagination of the creator rather than any of the ancient tribes.

The tribal style of tattoos comes from the older tribes such as the Celtics (Ireland, Scotland, & Wales), Maori Tribe (indigenous people of New Zealand), The Haida Tribe (indigenous people along the west coast of North America), the Marquesan (Polynesian inhabitants of the Marquises Islands) and the tribes of Borneo. Native Americans also used tattoos to denote rank, wealth, tribe affiliation, family, role in society and deeds of bravery.

Celts

The Celts were a proud, warrior class who inhabited the English Isles before the Roman invasion 55 B.C. under Julius Caesar. The Celts were such a pain in the rear that the Romans built the Hadrian Wall to keep them away. But I digress; the endless knots inside and out of the outlines identify the Tribal tattoos of the Celtics.

Maori

The Maori tribes migrated from Eastern Polynesia around 800 to 1300 AD and were the first settlers in New Zealand. They developed their own language. The Maori were savage and proud tribes of warriors. The warfare between the tribes were a way of life and those who were unlucky to be conquered, faced slavery or sometimes they were eaten! The British exempted the Maori from conscription in WW2. But over 17,000 Maori Natives volunteered! The traditional Maori tribal tattoos are known as ta moko, and consisted of bold spiral designs covering the face. The tattooing process was a tribal ritual that made the use of bone chisels for tattooing. All I can say is this has got to hurt!

Haida

The Haida are North American Indians who were expert fishermen and seafarers who lived along the coast of British Columbia and Alaska. These people are well known as skilled artisans of wood, metal and design. They were also known as fearsome warriors who kidnapped slaves as far south in California. The Tribal tattoos of the Haida resembled pictures of the Indian astrology, thunderbirds, beavers, bears, and fish. The tattoo style of the Haida is forceful and masculine.

Marquesan

Sea-faring Polynesians from Samoa colonized the Marquises Islands as early as 300 A.D. They were warring tribes who sometimes cannibalized their enemies. The devastation of the native Marquesan occurred with the introduction of diseases from the European explorers. These islanders covered their bodies completely with tattoos. The Marquesan Islanders used their bodies as a living canvas that told picture stories.

Borneo

Borneo is the third largest island in the world. The rainforest of the Borneo Island is very rich in biodiversity. The tribes of Borneo used tattoos for protection and proof of their achievements. Needless to say, they were notorious as headhunters. Their tattoos usually took the form of scorpions, flowers, dogs, dragons and spirals.

Celebrities

The ex-professional boxer, Mike Tyson’s facial tattoo was influenced by a combination of the Maori and Borneo Tribal tattoos.

Sandra Bullock has a Tribal tattoo design below her navel.

Pamela Anderson of Bay Watch fame, has a Tribal design on her lower back.

Conclusion

The vivid pattern of the Tribal tattoo expresses personal freedom and uniqueness of the wearer. Tribal tattoos have a simple appeal that reinforces a positive feeling about ourselves and connects us to ancient mystery of the tribal rituals, which faded away with history.

How to Get a Tattoo off Your Body

Writen by Adriana Zimbarg

There are few ways of getting a tattoo off your skin, but none of them are easy, pleasant or simple.

Fade Away Methods:

Fade away methods are the newest development in Tattoo Removal. This method normally involves a series of creams/rubs that are absorbed into the skin. The series, used in combination, causes a reaction that breaks down the components of the ink, which the body then disposes. This procedure essentially speeds up your body’s natural process of ridding your body of a foreign object -in this case it is ink. With time the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter, thus the tattoo “fades away.” This perhaps is the cheapest and least painful removal method. This is the only method that does not have a risk of scarring. However, it is does take some patience. Results are not seen overnight

Surgical Methods:

Most surgeons caution patients that complete tattoo removal is not possible. Few surgeons guarantee complete removal. Beware if they do! This might be your first sign warning sign.

How effective the removal technique is depends on size, location, age of tattoo, colours and type of ink used.

Also be aware of the possible side effects - scarring and pain

Those are:

Laser: The Laser technique is the penetration and break up of the ink articles that were injected into your skin. Much like the Fade Away Method, the ink particles that are broken up by the laser are carried away by the body’s natural systems and are disposed as bodily waste. This removal method involves the use of several types of laser or intense pulsed light therapy. Which types are used all depends on the colour of ink used in the tattoo. Laser has improved somewhat over the past couple of years. It used to take an average of 2 years to remove a tattoo, and even then the process was not fully guaranteed. Although modern lasers and light systems can remove a tattoo in a little less time, this process is entirely dependent upon the laser type, number of sessions and the patient’s body. At lease several treatments are necessary, even today. This procedure is performed under a topical anesthetic or with none at all. This is one of the more expensive methods used today.

Cryosurgery: This method involves freezing area of tattoo area prior to its removal. The removal technique often used is dermabrasion (This method involves removing all of the skin and the ink of the tattoo. A sanding instrument is used to “sand off” surface and middle layers of the skin. The tattoo is “sanded” with a rotary abrasive instrument in order to remove all of the skin. Bleeding is likely to occur. This procedure is performed under local anesthetic or local and oral/IV sedation. The price for Dermabrasion can range from $1000 to several thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the area treated.)

Excision: The tattooed area is cut out of your skin, and the surrounding skin is sutured together. This method leaves a scar. Only a small tattoo or a small section of a tattoo can be excised at a time. A larger tattoo may require several treatments and a skin graft. If it is a large tattoo skin from another part of the body might be needed

Don’t Make These Chinese Symbol Tattoo Mistakes

Writen by Becky McClure

The Chinese people have a highly developed writing system that evolved at least 3000 years ago. Ancient writing has been found written on bone, brass vessels or pottery and bamboo strips.

The Chinese writing system has no alphabet, but relies on a large number of symbols that represents spoken concepts or ideas. It is important to note that a Chinese symbol is NOT a pictograph but represents the entire spoken word.

And don’t even look for the Chinese alphabet because there isn’t one. The alphabet is a Latin invention, which is a whole new can of worms.

The Kangxi Dictionary was created in 1710 A.D. by imperial decree to compile 47,035 symbols. Don’t worry; the average Chinese person only needs to know five thousand symbols to pretty much read anything that is written in the Chinese language.

Now, let’s talk about mistakes which is the biggest block when someone thinks about getting a Chinese symbol tattoo. What you think the Chinese symbol tattoo means, may not be necessarily so.

As you can imagine, before rushing off to get the Chinese symbols tattooed on your skin - DOUBLE CHECK with someone who CAN read and understand Chinese. And resist the urge to pull over the Chinese waiter and ask him to write out the Chinese symbol for you. He may not know exactly what meaning you really want and may unintentionally give you the wrong symbol.

You see, Chinese symbols are complex and can easily be mean something other than intended. Get the wrong one and your new tattoo will be a permanent source of embarrassment to you!

Another fact is that Chinese Calligraphy is a precise art and sometimes strokes can be missing in your tattoo design. But don’t panic! Your tattoo artist can easily fix those mistakes.

However, be warned that the artistic flair of your tattoo artist can turn your Chinese characters into gibberish.

Another thing, Chinese names are written in the reversed order. Which mean your last name goes before your first.

Let me pause here for just a minute this is where things may get a little more complicated. Because your name is probably foreign to the Chinese language — Chinese symbols will have to be picked out to pronounce your name. Remember there are no Chinese alphabets. So you will have to pick out one or more Chinese symbols that represent your spoken name.

Do you see what I mean? Getting a Chinese symbol tattoo can become a nightmare if done hurriedly without any thoughts whatsoever!

Nonetheless, Chinese symbol tattoos are very popular today because they are really beautiful. And because most of us in the Western Hemisphere cannot read Chinese, Chinese symbol tattoos becomes an “exotic” form of expression.

And let’s face the fact that the real reason most guys probably want a Chinese symbols tattoo is because they are usually associated with martial arts or karate flicks. Men!

Becky McClure believes that the MOST important word after you made the decision to get inked is “Patience!” Pick the right tattoo design. Pick the right location on you. And then pick the best artist you can find for your new body art.
